The Aesthetic Center at The Villages is the brainchild of Alain Smolarski, M. D. who is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Smolarski has been in The Villages since 1998 and since then he has provided medical services to the community and surrounding area. Dr. Smolarski has had a life-long interest in skin disorders and their treatments. After practicing medicine in this area for a few years he became aware of a great need for the type of services that we provide.

Laser/Injectable Procedures

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) - Improves the appearance of photo aged skin. It removes or lightens age spots and redness caused by broken capillaries. A series of IPL skin treatments can help restore a more youthful appearance without any significant patient down time.

Collagen Enhancement - Collagen enhancing lasers (TITAN) stimulate collagen growth by targeting water in the dermis. The heated water stimulates cells, called fibroblasts, to produce more collagen. When collagen growth is stimulated the elasticity of the skin improves and it appears more toned without any patient down time.

Superficial Skin Resurfacing is achieved by working on the surface of the skin with Cutera's Laser Genesis. This procedure stimulates collagen regeneration on the skin's top layer. This procedure helps achieve a smoother superficial surface (reduction of fine lines and pores) without any patient down time.

Rosacea "Red Face" Therapy - Rosacea occurs when blood vessels move to just below the skin's surface, causing blotchy red patches. IPL and Cutera's laser Genesis are used to treat rosacea without any patient down time.

VEIN/VASCULAR TREATMENT
Our laser procedures are performed by Joyce Smolarski, MD. This safe and effective treatment uses a laser to help reduce or eliminate spider veins, cherry angiomas and port wine hemangiomas.

Our new generation Cutera Nd:YAG laser can effectively treat spider veins in the face of other parts of the body without any patient down time.

BOTOX ®
Botox ® is an injectable treatment for the relaxation of your glabellar muscles (between eyebrows), frontal muscles (forehead) for our frown lines as well as for those "crows feet" wrinkles right near the orbital region. RESTYLANE ®
Restylane ® is a new injectible synthetic filler, which is comparable to collagen, but will deliver more long-lasting results. Restylane ® can soften the appearance of those prominent "marionette" lines which we all acquire as we age. Older collagen fillers sometimes only delivered results for up to three months maximum, where as Restylane ® can provide a longer duration of softness between your treatments. Chemical Peels



Chemical peels are used to exfoliate the outer skin layers, dramatically improving the health and appearance of your skin. A special formulation specifically chosen for your skin type is applied. The superficial layers of your skin will gently be removed revealing a beautiful, smooth, even complexion with vibrant skin tones.

Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a professional, safe treatment which gently removes the outer layers of environmentally damaged skin cells and fine hair; this reveals healthy, new skin cells beneath. Dermaplaning is done with a surgical blade and light, fan like strokes are performed to exfoliate the most superficial layers of your skin, which will help to stimulate collagen regeneration. When men shave their skin, this usually results in a smooth, baby soft feel to the skin; Dermaplaning is safe if performed by a licensed professional and will result in leaving the skin smooth and glowing with no downtime whatsoever.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is useful for virtually all skin types, including aging and sun damaged skin. This procedure also helps in diminishing the appearance of hyperpigmented skin, fine lines as well as stretch marks and other acneic skin conditions.

HAIR REMOVAL OPTIONS
In today's world, people like options. Patrons of the Aesthetic Center, depending on their lifestyle, have options in hair removal as well. We use new and traditional methods.

Lasers are changing hair removal treatments, providing gentle, non invasive and long lasting solutions to unwanted hair. The Cutera CoolGlide (Nd:YAG) is the "gold standard" and can safely be used on all skin colors without any patient down time.

Laser hair removal can be effective in that multiple treatments can lead to permanent destruction of the hair follicle altogether, thereby impeding any future hair growth for a particular area. Laser hair removal can allow you to put an end to razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and tweezing. Most treatments take less than 30 minutes.

Waxing is performed by applying a layer of hot wax to the skin, adhering it to the desired hair growth area with a cloth-like material, and then quickly removing it. Waxing provides temporary removal of unwanted hair of all types and colors.

For smaller areas such as eyebrows, chin or the upper lip, electrolysis may be a better option and may offer longer results. Electrolysis attacks the hair follicle all the way down to the root, interrupting the current hair growth cycle.

For longer duration or even permanent hair removal, we also offer Laser Hair Removal. Why do I need a consultation?
All new patients can benefit from an initial consultation, which includes a skin examination, thorough discussion about what the patient wants and what our recommendations are. We also include a review of treatment options. During the consultation you will receive the specifics about laser therapy, including pre and post treatment skin care.

How do lasers work?
Lasers work by focusing a beam of light to a target in the skin (blood vessel, pigment, hair). The word LASER is an acronym that stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. They work by bouncing a beam of light back and forth between optical mirrors and lenses, amplifying the strength with each cycle. When the beam is powerful enough, it is released in a short pulse of energy. This pulse of energy causes a carefully controlled burn. The light released by the laser is directed to a specific target, such as melanin (the pigment in skin and hair); oxyhemoglobin (red blood cells in a blood vessel) or water (at the level of the skin where collagen resides). The laser allows for treatment of just the item you wish to either strengthen (collagen) or be rid of (hair, spots) and not the surrounding skin. That is why side effects and "down time" are almost non-existent.

Is laser therapy safe?
It is! The laser focuses in on treating only the problem while the surrounding normal skin is not affected.

Are there people who would not be candidates for laser therapy?
Because of recent advances in the science of lasers, many laser procedures are now safe for all ethnicities and skin colors. Our physicians use a formula that accounts for a patient's age, skin type, medical history and treatment area to determine the best setting for the laser.

What skin conditions are treated by lasers?

• Red lesions (vascular), including angiomas (cherry spots), telangectasias or spider veins (broken capillaries) and rosacea.
• Brown lesions (pigment), including freckles, age, liver and sun spots.
• Wrinkles, including very fine lines around the eyes and lips.
• Unwanted hair on face and body (dark hair responds best).

How much does laser surgery cost?
The size of the area to be treated and the number of pulses delivered determine the cost of laser therapy. It may take only a few pulses or several thousand pulses to treat any one area. That is why the fees are so variable, but it can start $150 for a small lesion.

Does the laser hurt and will I need anesthesia?
No anesthesia is required for most laser procedures - we make every treatment as comfortable as possible.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed will depend on the lesion, skin type and type of laser used. One to several laser sessions may be indicated. During your consultation you will be given an estimate of how many sessions you may require.

How long does a treatment session usually take?
Depending on the size and location of the area and type of procedure to be performed, an approximate estimate would be anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or longer.

What will I look like after a laser treatment?
Results will vary depending on the laser used, but for the most part you should expect that within an hour after being treated no one would be able to tell that you've undergone a procedure. Some procedures may cause your skin to turn slightly darker for a few days, before the final results are seen, but this will not last long and is not uncomfortable at all.

Will I need to take any medication?
Extra-strength Tylenol is usually preferred following some laser procedures, as well as a topical antibiotic like Bacitracin or Polysporin. Prescription medications will be prescribed on an individual basis depending on the procedure.

Will I be able to attend work or school after my laser procedure?
Most patients are able to return to their regular activities the same day as their procedure. However, some procedures require that you avoid the sun for a few days.

What therapies, other than laser treatments, do you have?
Dermal fillers (Restylane*) and Botox* injections. We are also an authorized dealer of the full line of Skinceuticals* cosmeceutical skin products.
